Volunteer

Volunteers are a critical part of Turning Points services. Through the aid of volunteers, were able to extend our reach well beyond what our staff could provide alone. Our well-developed program allows our volunteers to have a real impact, through direct work with victims of domestic violence or in spreading the word through the community. The vast majority of volunteers remain with Turning Point for many years.

This four-hour workshop is offered three times each year. If you decide that you are interested in providing direct service, working in the shelters, or being a community education volunteer, you will next be required to complete a comprehensive 45-hour domestic violence training program. The training classes are also offered three times a year and consist of 40 hours of classroom instruction plus a minimum of five additional hours of "on the job" training. This training develops and enhances listening skills as well as providing information about other community services available to victims.

The amount of time required of volunteers depends on the job. Some activities involve just a few hours each month. Some are on an "as-needed" basis. We would like you to make a one-year commitment.

Direct Service Volunteers
These volunteers work directly with our clients. As a direct service volunteer, you might:

Community Volunteers
These volunteers help to spread the word about Turning Point and domestic violence through the community. Training is provided. As a Community Volunteer, you might:
  • Speak in the community about the issue of domestic abuse and about the agencys services
  • Serve on an events committee
  • Organize holiday parties for clients
  • Staff community education booths
  • Prepare bulk mailings
  • Help with an ad-hoc organizational committee

Other Volunteer Opportunities
We are always in need of volunteers for additional opportunities such as performing maintenance tasks, periodically assisting a client to move, picking up donated furniture, performing clerical duties, assisting with mailings, or helping at our special events.

To speak with the Volunteer Manager about these opportunties and to sign up for the next introductory workshop, call 610.797.0530, ext. 227.
